The counselors at Ocean Springs Upper Elementary hope you find our new website helpful and full of information. It is our mission to assist every student in acquiring skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to become successful students, responsible citizens, productive workers, and lifelong learners in a global society. The counseling program promotes and facilitates academic, personal/social, and career development so that every student is empowered to realize his or her full potential.
We are very fortunate to have a counselor per grade level! Each counselor provides classroom guidance lessons that pertain to their student and teacher needs. We also hold individual and group sessions daily and ad
here to the American School Counselor Association Guidelines. The students take turns attending lunch bunches to work on various topics such as careers and social skills. Lastly, each counselor is a part of a multidisciplinary team attending and holding TST, 504, and English Learner meetings.
I am the 6th grade school counselor at OSUE. I am from Corinth, Mississippi, and I have lived in Ocean Springs since 1999. I am a National Board Certified Counselor and a National Board Certified School Counselor. I earned a bachelor’s degree in 1984 from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree from Loyola University of New Orleans in 1988. I am married to Stan Hurt (aka Stan the Tile Man), and I have two wonderful children (Cal Cossich and Anne Marie Hurt), a fantastic daughter-in-law (Courtney Cossich), and a grandson due in February. This is my 8th year as counselor at OSUE. I have been both a classroom teacher and a school counselor in Louisiana and Mississippi for many years, and I look forward to a wonderful 2019-20 school year.
