Welcome to Mrs. Greig's Speech/Language Communication page
Hello! My name is Lisa Greig and I am one of two Speech/Language Pathologists at Ocean Springs Upper Elementary School. I am so excited to be able to work with the students at the Upper become better communicators. I hope that you find this page helpful in helping your own child communicate better at home.
A little about me, I was born in Michigan but grew up in Ocean Springs. I am returning to Ocean Springs Upper Elementary after three years at the Middle School and High School. I am very happy to be back at Ocean Springs Upper and I look forward to working with students to help them improve their communication skills. I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor degree in Deaf Education and a Master degree in Speech/Language Pathology. I have been working close to twenty years as an SLP and seven of those in OSSD. I thoroughly enjoy working with children and helping them be more successful communicators in the classroom, with their peers, and at home.
What exactly is speech/language therapy? Speech/language therapy focuses on four main areas: articulation, language, voice, and fluency of speech. Articulation therapy focuses on a student's ability to say sounds correctly so he or she can communicate clearly and effectively. Language therapy focuses on a student's ability to use and comprehend age appropriate grammar, sentence structure, and vocabulary. Voice focuses on helping students use an appropriate volume of speech and fluency focuses on helping students speak fluently without stuttering. The overall focus is to help students become more effective communicators.
